The Sales Assistant provides accurate and efficient support to a designated sales team by processing insertion orders and working with customers to correctly place ads. Responsible for handling administrative and clerical duties as directed by the sales team or designated sales manager.

Please note: This is not a sales position. It is strictly a sales support and administrative role.


  • Ensure that advertisements are accurately placed and meet customers' needs by completing insertion orders process / art production requests in a timely and accurate manner. 
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by collaborating with other Utah Media Group departments to obtain information and documentation required to fill the client's needs.
  • Handle corrections, adjustments, and billing issues for online advertisements by serving as the primary liaison between the client and Utah Media Group after the sale.
  • Maintain accurate account files, account lists and sales records as needed.
  • Assist sales representatives and managers as needed by providing help in generating and creating reports including missing ad reports, providing client samples, and value added program tracking and management.
  • Support the Advertising Department and sales representatives by accurately and efficiently processing ad orders for customers, courteously responding to customer inquiries, providing marketing materials for sales calls and other administrative support as needed.
  • Build effective communication channels proactively with other departments by attending weekly sales meetings and establishing relationships in other departments; especially the print sales staff and production.
  • Maintain and improve on professional and technical knowledge by attending training sessions, and reviewing professional publications.
  • Maintain knowledge of Utah Media Group rates and deadlines by studying rate cards and increasing general understanding of the newspaper business.
  • Demonstrate a complete knowledge of advertising policies and operating procedures by reviewing standards and updates as needed.


  • Complete special projects and other related duties as directed by the Advertising Sales Managers or VP Advertising.
  • Provide administrative support to sales managers as requested.
  • Working with the art studio in building ads. Though this is not a graphic design position, the employee may be required to make minor art corrections.


  • Interpersonal skills to interact with customers, sales staff, marketing, and management.
