Purpose:

Classified Inside Sales Representatives ensure that obituaries, funeral notices and in memoriam ads run correctly and on the date(s) requested.They are responsible for answering the inbound calls and the accurate input of classified ads. They are responsible for ensuring that Classified ads run error-free and on the correct day(s). In addition to providing courteous and efficient customer service to our internal and external customers, this group is also expected to up-sell and cross-sell when the opportunity is available. Outbound calling for telesales projects, expired ads or other company initiatives will also be handled by this group. Answer telephones in a timely manner and accurately record all information for classified advertisements.

Essential Functions:

Prepare obituaries for publication - proofreading on the spot and communicating with the customer about details of schedule, price, including up-selling and offering specials pertaining to obituaries and all other media that Newspaper Agency Co., LLC (Utah Media Group) offers.

Refer any possible contracts, faxes or displays to the appropriate team.

Maintain current information on company policies and procedures concerning relevant obituaries, announcements, classified and Utah Media Group advertising.

Notify advertisers when obituaries are placed on special hold due to problems in compliance with HUD regulations, discrimination laws and regulations, and company policies.

Meet monthly revenue goals for department budget.

Accurately input Obituary advertising and all relevant information including the processing of checks and credit cards.

Make outbound telesales calls related to product or special project initiatives.  

Participate fully in team meetings, productivity contests, special events and any other department activity to promote increased efficiency.

Participate in department certification program by cross-training and taking written, oral and computer tests.

Participate in ongoing training for Obituary/Classified Inside Sales Representatives.

Troubleshoot customer service issues by using the computer system, various handbooks and other printed resources.

Meet quality assurance criteria by achieving a passing score on call monitors, test calls and skill set testing.

Extend courteous and efficient customer service to our internal and external customers.

Accept, format and input obituaries, funeral notices, and in-memoriam ads for publication and proofread for accuracy.  

Maintain current information on company policies and procedures concerning relevant announcements.

Receive electronically transmitted obituaries and funeral notices; review for accuracy and make sure that electronic data is in a format compatible with Comapny's production systems.

Update obituary log - Generate and check obituary reports from the computer for the newspapers' pagination departments.

Scan, size, and adjust pictures and picture contrasts/brightness, etc., also enhance picture with touchup tools. Save pictures in multiple programs.

Maintain hard copy files of obituaries in a timely manner.

Answer telephones in a timely manner and accurately record all information for all classified advertisements.

Take care of Walk-In Obituaries in office located in lobby, face to face with customers


Work / Technical Experience Requirements:

Moderate to excellent keyboarding skills (Minimum of _40_ wpm)

Excellent proofreading and spelling ability.

Excellent customer service skills.

Ability to deal with customers placing obituaries and in memoriam ads with sensitivity, sympathy and understanding.

Ability to use a photo-based computer program for enhancing and adjusting photos.

Ability to handle credits when errors occur and give appropriate compensation according to established guidelines.

Previous sales, customer service and / or call center experience.

Excellent communication skills, particularly telephone communication skills.

Knowledge and understanding of the laws and regulations that affect classified advertising.

Accuracy and attention to detail.

Must be able to work Saturdays

Ability to sit at a computer terminal and wear a telephone headset for most of the shift.

Computer skills using Word, Excel, IBM PC, Adobe Photo Shop, and other comparable programs.

Knowledge and ability to work, access, process and create email.

Ability to access and work within the internet.
