Position Highlights:

As part of the Utah Media Group Marketing & Agency Team, the Content Writer/Copywriter works closely with other communications professionals within the Marketing/Agency Department, as well as with other internal and external customers and audiences. The Content Writer should have experience in professional writing and editing of a varied background, from journalistic to promotional. The Content Writer should have a strong understanding of brand development and consistency with the capability of solving complex problems through copy editing and word choice. Able to conceptualize content solutions to execute on clients' vision; balances strong grammar skills with creativity. The Content Writer is responsible for creating and editing content for printed publications as well as advertising promotional pieces such as social media content, event programs, brochures, one sheets, online and printed ads, video scripts and marketing presentational materials.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Create content for UMG-produced publications and UMG Agency projects.
  • Assist publications manager in content creation, client interfacing and editorial direction.
  • Edit client and team-provided content for publications, campaigns and promotions.
  • Assist designers and web developers in written content portion of their projects as needed.
  • Lead brainstorming and offer creative ideas for effective storytelling.
  • Successfully conceptualize content direction in a team setting to help launch various campaigns and maximize effectiveness.
  • Help guide and execute content strategy, creation, and/or edition for certain marketing/agency projects.
  • Consult on key messaging tactics for sales teams, customers, and departments.
  • Assist with events, video/photo shoots and campaigns (particularly those for which the content writer has worked on content) as necessary.
  • Assist with maintaining internal content such as agency website, blog and other social media.
  • Assist with client contract creation and edits.
  • Work closely with web developers, printers and marketing/communication personnel.


  • Bachelors Degree in English, Communications, or Marketing is preferred. Equivalent experience in professional writing experience considered.
  • 3-5 years published writing experience required. Must produce a portfolio of varied content types.
  • Ability to write clean copy quickly.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize competing demands, learn quickly and work with tight deadlines (i.e. print deadlines).
  • Project management experience preferred (i.e. editorial planning and management, large content collection projects).
  • Advance skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office. Experience with Google apps.
  • Advanced understanding of AP style or comparable style. Advanced skills in English grammar and conventions.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic knowledge of and eye for design is a plus for collaborative projects.
  • Basic knowledge of html/CSS or other related programming is a plus for web content publishing.
  • General understanding of marketing including branding, target audiences, trend analysis, new product potential.
  • Knowledge of media strategies and other areas typically covered by a marketing or journalism degree.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
